Historic Fort York
Discover the drama of Canada's exciting military history at Historic Fort York! Toronto was founded in 1793 with the establishment of Fort York, the birthplace of the city. During the War of 1812 , this was the scene of the Battle of York when the U.S. army captured and held Toronto for a week. Today, only a few blocks from the downtown core, Fort York recreates life in the British army 200 years ago, complete with historic room settings, costumed staff and military drill. This National Historic Site provides an excellent opportunity to catch a glimpse of British, Canadian and American history - all at one stop!
